Getting personal with I.J. Smith

To say that I.J. is an amazing person and writer is quite the understatement. Anyone that has known him longer than 5 minutes can and will tell you that he is smart, funny and super passionate about his writing. He has an incredible ability to tell a story that will put you right in the middle of the action. You can see what his characters see and feel what they feel. I have told him countless times that he has made me cry, happy and just mad as hell over what his characters have done. This is talent plain and simple and not just anyone can do that but I do know several that can.  I am a not only his fan but also his friend. I am very proud of that. If you haven’t read anything he has written you must! His Infinity series is my favorite and I have threatened more than once to go live in his computer. He laughed at me when I said that! So I would love to introduce you to my friend I.J. Smith….

1. How old were you when you first wrote your first story?
Can I remember that far back, hmmm. Oh yes just! I was still in school, we were tasked with writing a creative story and I wrote about dinosaurs. LOL,I was silly kid who wanted to find the lost world.
It was great and I even did the art work for it. I won a local competition and from that moment I was hooked.

2. How many books have you written?
I have 6 published, but I have several waiting to be released. So in all about 10 so far, but I have hundreds more planned. I just need to live a few hundred years J

3. Anything you won’t write about?
Erotic, I have no real talent for writing it and to be honest it is not my sort of thing. Also I have a thing about hurting animals I found it so hard to write a scene where the dog Paige was hurt, it bought tears to my eyes.

4. Tell me about you. Age (if you don’t mind answering), married, kids, do you have another job etc…
I am 35, A Taurus lol so I am a bull. I don’t have children but really hope I will one day. I was single, but recently embarked on a relationship with someone I have had feelings about for a long time. We are keeping it quiet, as we have been close for many years.
I worked as a digital engineer, but sadly due to a health scare I had to give it up.

4. What’s your favorite book you have written?
Infinity, I know Dead & Alive is so popular, but for me Infinity is a story from my heart. In my eye Infinity could kick Twilights ass.

5. Who or what inspired you to write?
My father, he sadly could not read or write. Because of this he made sure I had a book in my hands before I could walk. J
When I read such great authors writing complete crap, it made me think what the hell I can do better.

6. What do you like to do for fun?
Swimming is something I love. When I was young I used to be a boxer, I miss it but because of certain ill-health I can no longer be a part of it.
Dancing, yes you heard me. I am usually the first one on the dance floor dragging the girls up.

7. Any traditions you do when you finish a book?
That is a simple answer, I start the next one.
For me writing is an endless journey, I have so many stories to tell. I will never be finished.

8. Where do you write? Quite or music?
I like to be comfy, I have a habit of playing cartoons while I write. I am known to play music, usually soundtracks, like Pirates of the Caribbean, King Arthur, Gladiator.

9. Anything you would change about your writing?
Honestly no, I feel I have a talent for making people care for my character. Being able to make an emotional connection with readers is what it’s all about.

10. What is your dream? Famous writer?
To live in a cabin, away from the world. With someone I love, a few dogs, maybe a couple of kids. Get away from the crappy world we live in. That would be my dream, I have no interest in fame or fortune. If I could earn enough to make that happen I would be a happy man.

11. Where do you live?
Great Britain, the place that is all over the news because of Europe.

12. Pets?
I have my beautiful dog Ethel, but she is old and I hate thinking of the day I will lose her.
Also my little man Gizzo, my Guinea pig. I rescued him from an old work colleague, the owners did not take to him and was going to have him put to sleep. I could not let that happen.

13. What’s your favorite thing about writing?
For me, being able to disappear in my thoughts. Life is rough and I can leave it and live in a world I created.

The readers, I love the interaction. I love meeting new people. I have no secrets; I have made so many new friends. I love you all
