1. How old were you when you first wrote your first story?
I think I was eleven or twelve when I wrote my first horror story. It was entitled Lifeblood. The story was about a scientist who turns into a monster after a lab explosion. Pretty gory stuff for an eleven-year-old kid.
2. How many books have you written?
Raising Hell is my 12th book. I’ve also written 4 poetry collections.
3. Anything you won’t write about?
Since you asked, I’d have to say unicorn porn because I believe I have to draw the line somewhere. (laughs)
4. Tell me about yourself.
I’m 38 years old and a practicing physician. I’m addicted to horror movies, coffee, and caps.
5. What’s your favorite book you have written?
Asking a writer to pick a favorite book is like asking a mother to pick a favorite child. I have to say though, Cry Wolf is one of the most memorable. Not because it’s superior to the others but because of the way it was written which was with an old laptop with a busted Shift key.
6. Who or what inspired you to write?
That’s easy. My mom. She’s an English teacher (retired now), and she got me hooked on reading. Writing just seemed like the next logical step.
7. What do you like to do for fun?
I spend hours in used book stores. It’s fun and therapeutic, in a way.
8. Any traditions you do when you finish a book?
I treat myself to a movie and a nice glazed doughnut.
9. Where do you write? Quiet or music?
I’ll write anywhere so long as I have a notebook and a pen with me. I listen to a lot of heavy metal, so I usually have Killswitch Engage, Audioslave, Dream Theater, or Disturbed playing in the background.
10. Anything you would change about your writing?
Speed, for one. A few writers I know can write and average of 2,500-3,000 words a day (and still post on Facebook). I’m lucky if I can write half that.
11. What is your dream?
I’ve always wanted someone to make a film based on one of my books. Maybe have Ed Harris or Edward Norton star in it. I mean, come on, that’s not asking too much, is it?
12. Where do you live?
Iloilo City, Philippines. Drop by for a visit. We’ll have brunch.
I own a couple of tarantulas – Deadpool, Carrie, Thor, and Loki. I call them the Fearsome Four.
14. What’s your favorite thing about writing?
I love it when a story I’m writing takes an unexpected turn and surprises me. Then I’m literally forced to keep writing just to see how the story ends.
15. What is coming next for you?
I have a few titles slated for next year. There will be vampires, demons, and stuff nightmares are made of. I can promise you that.
Thank you for letting us get to know you better. I wish you lots of luck and much success.
